Shadow Chancellor Visits Latchford
Osborne pledges to help first time buyers
George Osborne, Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer, visited Latchford recently to talk to local Estate Agents and housebuyers about his proposals to stop first time buyers having to pay stamp duty on their first home.
Osborne says, "that the average buyer now has to pay around £1500 in taxes just to get onto the housing ladder....the equivalent figure in 1977 was nil......this is unfair and will be stopped. First time buyer stamp duty will be replaced with a flat tax £25,000 on wealthy people working here in the UK but not currently paying income tax here....the so called "non-doms", working predominantly in the City of London....this is fair and will make a big difference."
David Mowat added that in Warrington, for the first time, the number of first time buyers had decreased last year from 1900 to 1500...this is not what most young people want....and it is good news that this punitive tax will be changed when we form the next Government.
Mr Osbornes visit was filmed by Channel 4 television, to be broadcast on November 13th.
